Multimedia / Voices from the Game
"Voices from the game" is a journey. A journey that takes us from Turkey to the border between Croatia and Slovenia. The same journey that migrants who, for various reasons, are forced to leave their country of origin and undertake the journey through the Balkan route.
Voices and images of various landscapes: these are the two simple elements that compose the documentary “Voices from the game”. Cities, forests, roads, streams, the sea, refugee camps, barbed wire. And the voices, of men and women, characters who tell us what the Balkan route is. An ordeal in which migrants, due to the living conditions to which they are forced, gradually lose their dignity as human beings and find themselves living as pawns that are moved according to the needs and interests of the States they pass through. A story made by those who live firsthand and those who work on the route, accompanied by the landscapes that many of the migrants see with their own eyes. But the migrants, in this documentary, are deliberately left without a face, because during their journey they pass like invisible silhouettes, faceless and storyless bodies that nobody cares to look at.
For this work I decided to use mostly static pictures and landscapes taken quite far away. The physical detachment helped me to highlight the migrants’ everyday feelings during their long journey; passing from countries to countries almost without being seen or noticed, if not by those few people who have pity for the situation they face.
I chose not to show any faces of the people interviewed, because many of the stories told, unfortunately, are common to thousands of people. Landscape sometimes beautiful to look at, and often terrible stories to listen to.
